LLM Visibility
What Is LLM Visibility?
Updated February 27, 2026
Most people use "LLM visibility" and "LLM discoverability" interchangeably. They are not the same thing, and conflating them leads businesses to optimize for the wrong problem.
Visibility is whether an LLM can find you. Discoverability is whether it will recommend you. You need both, but you cannot skip to recommendation without visibility first.
Visibility Comes Before Recommendation
Before an LLM can recommend your business, it needs to understand your business clearly enough to trust what it knows about you.
That means the model must answer: who are you, what do you do, where do you operate, and are you legitimate.
If those signals are missing or inconsistent, the model either guesses or moves on to a business whose data is clearer.
The businesses cited reliably in AI answers are not always the biggest. They are the easiest for the model to read without friction.
The Three Foundations of LLM Visibility
Structural truth. Schema markup gives a model machine-readable facts about your business. If your homepage lacks complete schema, start there.
Context consistency. URLs, meta titles, service pages, and content should tell one coherent story. Mixed or contradictory context weakens model confidence.
Trust signals. Profiles and directories such as Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Yelp, and social channels are third-party confirmation that your business is real and active.
Structure and context tell the model who you say you are. Trust signals help it verify you.
What Strong LLM Visibility Looks Like in Practice
The practical proof is simple: when users ask questions your business can answer, your business gets cited.
That citation means the model understands your business, has enough confidence in its legitimacy, and sees a fit for the user outcome.
Teams that achieve this usually follow fundamentals: complete schema, consistent business context, and accurate active trust signals.
Visibility is the entry point. When you get that right, discoverability follows.
